NRL Supercoach Rookie Watch - Sialetili Faeamani

Article image

Sialetili Faeamani has become one of the most hyped Rookies in recent days. This follows a Daily Telegraph article on January, 23, which made the following comments:

"Meanwhile, Hannay is preparing to unleash the Titans’ version of Brian To’o. Penrith recruit Siale Faeamani is on track to make his NRL debut this year as part of Hannay’s overhaul of the Titans. At this stage, Faeamani and Jojo Fifita are the front runners for wing positions with Phil Sami and Dolphins recruit Max Feagai training in the centres. Kiwis Test dynamo Keano Kini will start at fullback with Jayden Campbell and AJ Brimson in the halves." (Courier Mail, Travis Meyn)

This has been quickly jumped on by plenty of Fantasy and Supercoach content creators. How legit it is, is difficult to tell. The article does not actually attribute any of the assessments made to actual Titans Coaching Staff. It could simply be a case of inferences made from where players have been training through January. This itself can be impacted by things like other players being rehabbed. We have reached out to Travis Meyn for clarification on whether these assessments have come from coaching staff comments or training observations and will edit this article when we get a reply.

One significantt variable regardless, will be where AJ Brimson lines up Rd 1.

Before looking at that though, a realistic view on where the high potential Faeamani is actually at. Siale, born and raised in Aukland, NZ, attended St Peters College Aukland. He was a Part of limited Aukland Blues Rugby U18s Programs through Covid and was Vice Captain of St Peter`s First XV in 2022. He elected to pursue League with the Warriors, playing 9 Games with their SG Ball Team in 2023, scoring 3 Tries. He moved up to their Jersey Flegg Team in 2024 playing 21 Games for 8 Tries and doing a little Goal Kicking with 12 Goals from 15 attempts. Penrith Pathers picked him up for 2025 where he played 22 Jersey Flegg Cup games, scoring 9 Tries. He also made 3 NSW Cup Appearances for the Panthers, all starting in the Centres.

In his 55 games across SG Ball Cup, Jersey Flegg Cup and NSW Cup, 49 were starting Centre, 5 starting Second Row (Warriors, Jersey Flegg 2024) and 1 starting from the bench. He has yet to play a single Game starting on a Wing. It should also be noted that Titans signed Faeamani on a 2 year Development contract for 2026-27, which doesnt point to their seeing him as an immediate NRL Proposition, or at least not at the time of signing? It is quite possible thats quickly changed. On the surface though, it does more point to their intention to see him develop in QLD Cup initially. Faeamani has been compared to Brian Too largely due to his frame, he stands at 175cm, 5cm shorter than Too, and weighs 94Kg. His height really works against him in the modern game as far as being a winger goes, I would think Centre is definitely more his future, both from his physical qualities and playing experience. It could be they are giving him some time running on a Wing in the absence of other players or, just in case they choose to use him at some stage in the season. And, yes, it may be that they actually are seriously thinking of starting him on a wing in Rd 1.

The other significant variable is where AJ Brimson lands for Rd 1. Titans have picked up Lachlan Ilias who racked up 8 Tries and 16 Try Assists across 20 NSW Cup Games in 2025. Ilias is an experienced specialist halves player with a Kicking Game. Hannay has indicated his desire to give Brimson a genuine chance at 5/8 however, many feel Titans best line up is with Ilias at 7, the dangerous Jayden Campbell running at 6 and Brimson lining up in the Centres. Should Hannay come to the same conclusion over the next few weeks that would almost certainly see Faeamani continuing his natural Progression in QLD Cup to start the season.

For now, we are projectiing based on a Halves pairing of Ilias and Campbell, with Brimson partnering Feagai in the Centres and the taller Phillip Sami and Jojo Fifita manning the Wings.

We`ll see how things progess through the Trials and come Rd 1 Team Lists.

Should Faeamani actually be named to start on a WIng in Rd 1, what should we expect?

This is a little bit of a tough question. Titans remain pretty friendless with the Punters and are currently projected to finish 15th based on the betting markets. That said, it was their defence far more than their attack which anchored them near the bottom of the ladder. They conceded 719 Points across the season with the next worst being the Cowboys with 684. Titans 520 Points in attack was actually ranked 11th and only 14 Points shy of the Bulldogs who were the best defensive team of the season. If they can make significant defensive improvements under Hannay they could be one of the surprise packets of 2026. As far as stats go, we only have 3 NSW Cup games to base anything off, and they were all starting at Centre. He averaged 54 across those 3 games, playing the full minutes and scoring 1 Try. He is certainly more suitable for making some quick dollars in Supercoach than he is in Fantasy, especially being able to wait for him to play his first 2 games and then jump on should he rack up a large negative Break Even. An average around the 50 mark would appear likely on the little evidence available.
